EMDR
Erica completed her Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training in 2023 through the EMDR Institute. She incorporates EMDR in her practice to support clients in reprocessing traumatic memories, promoting emotional healing, and building resilience. Whether addressing past traumas or navigating life transitions, Erica creates a nonjudgemental space for clients to understand their experiences. Employing the evidence-based method of EMDR, which utilizes bilateral stimulation and a structured approach, Erica guides clients through an eight phase process to help diminish the emotional impact of distressing memories. Erica is trained in specialized EMDR protocols, including Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP) for individual trauma recovery and Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP) for healing collective trauma in community settings. Through these protocols, Erica can support clients in addressing both immediate and complex trauma, facilitating effective, tailored interventions for clients affected by recent or ongoing traumatic events. Erica equips clients with relevant coping strategies, empowering them to apply newfound insights in their everyday lives. Erica is currently in consultation to become a certified EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) provider.
Complex Trauma or Recent Traumatic Event
Trauma is often used to describe a singular event or a series of events that have a profound and lasting impact on our nervous system, as well as on the way we perceive the world around us. These experiences can manifest in various forms, such as attachment trauma, dissociation, derealization, depression, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, despair, lack of trust, and negative self-beliefs, among others. The effects of trauma can be far-reaching, influencing not only mental and emotional well-being but also how individuals navigate their daily lives and relationships. Erica is currently undergoing specialized training to become a complex trauma and dissociation expert. She is studying under the guidance of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), an organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of trauma and dissociation.Erica works with clients to help them understand the impact of both developmental trauma—experienced early in life—and more recent traumatic events. Her goal is to increase her clients' ability to cope effectively with these experiences and incorporate them in a healthier, more adaptive way into their everyday lives. By integrating psychodynamic principles into her therapeutic approach, Erica helps clients explore the root causes of their challenges, fostering deep self-awareness, leading to long-lasting transformation and healing.
Perinatal Mental Health
Erica received comprehensive training from Postpartum Support International (PSI) and obtained her Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) in 2023. She provides support to birthing individuals and families navigating the unique emotional challenges of the perinatal period, including pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Erica plays a crucial role in providing emotional support to birthing individuals, helping clients develop coping strategies, and fostering a safe space to express concerns or fears. Additionally, Erica collaborates with other perinatal healthcare providers such as lactation consultants, doulas, and perinatal psychiatrists. Erica’s skill set contributes to the well-being of the developing family unit as well as the parent(s) during this transformative stage.
